Workshop Approach

In a context saturated with images and visual content, the workshop focuses on originality, narrative strength, and critical thinking as the core elements of meaningful street photography.

Participants are guided through an in-depth exploration of street photography masters, supported by academic references and visual analysis. Particular attention is given to language, poetics, style, and the construction of visual meaning.

The workshop also supports participants in developing their own photographic vision, encouraging reflection on how images communicate, challenge stereotypes, and build complex narratives.

Location and Structure

The theoretical sessions take place in Lancaster, while the practical shooting sessions are held in Morecambe, a coastal town in the United Kingdom known for its promenade, tidal landscapes, and layered social spaces.

Morecambe offers a rich environment for street photography, where human presence, leisure, memory, and landscape intersect. Its promenade, Stone Jetty, public sculptures, and seaside architecture provide a diverse setting for observation and visual exploration.

Programme Overview

The workshop is structured across two weekends.

The first weekend is dedicated to theory and visual analysis, introducing the history of street photography and examining the work of key European and international practitioners.

Between sessions, participants engage in free shooting in Morecambe.

The second weekend focuses on collective image review, constructive critique, and story sequencing. Participants analyse composition, perceptual lines, and narrative coherence, exchanging feedback and developing their photographic projects through guided discussion.

Who Can Participate

The workshop is open to anyone with a strong interest in street photography, including professional and amateur photographers, artists, photography and art students, graphic designers, and visual researchers.

No specific academic background is required, but participants are expected to be actively engaged in photographic practice.
